Mercedes has many renowned models, but if there is one that represents the traditional values of the brand is the Mercedes S Class. The sedan combines luxury, comfort, technology and, according to versions, power. The flagship does not lose bellows, so the German brand has left almost the same packaging and has focused its efforts to achieve improvements in other aspects.
On the one hand, the mechanical offer, which is extended with four new options that have improved in the efficiency section. The first two are variants of the diesel engine 3.0 of six cylinders in line, that deliver 290 and 345 CV and homologan a consumption of 5,5 and 5,6 l / 100 km respectively.
The other two are the block 4.0 V8 biturbo offered in powers of 475 and 620 HP. Of these two, the brand claims to have reduced its spending by 10%, so they mark 8.5 and 8.9 l / 100 km.
In addition, Mercedes has announced that soon will come to the six-cylinder versions a 48-volt electrical system. Along with the new electric compressor (which will act accompanying the turbo), it will allow the development of powers close to the V8 blocks, but with a much lower consumption.
The plug-in hybrid S-Class, on the other hand, extends the capacity of its battery to 13.3 kWh, reaching 50 km of electrical autonomy.
The interior receives improvements that affect both comfort and luxury. The instrument cluster and the center console merge into a single surface formed by two screens of 12.3 inches each. All versions have keyless start and the highlight is the Energizing Comfort Control.
The system seeks the welfare of the driver and passengers and, depending on their mood, adjust the parameters of the air conditioner, the fragrance that is expelled into the air, the temperature of the heated seats, its massage functions, the light environmental and music. With six different programs, some of which serve to exercise the muscles can be adapted to the need of each moment.
But technological advances have not only been applied in that direction, they have also focused on achieving semi-autonomous driving. The road scan function detects bumps and irregularities and adapts the magnetic suspension at speeds of up to 180 km / h.
For its part, the Intelligent Drive brings together multiple assistants: braking, steering, lane change, lane maintenance, signal recognition and proximity, in addition to remote parking from the smartphone.
The updated Mercedes S-Class will arrive at dealerships during the next month of July.
